OK! So you have the KT133A chipset with the active fan on the Northbridge (this is not anything to do with the bios, by the way)
Now many of the motherboard manufactures that used this chipset opted NOT! to fit an active fan, but instead fitted a slightly bigger heatsink.
It tended to be the bigger, more expensive brands (Asus, MSI & Abit) that went for the active fan to atract the overclockers to buy there boards and.......because they look coooool.
The budget offerings AKA Gigabyte etc! just went for a slightly larger heatsink.(as they do now with the KT266A)GA7-VTXE
I owned an Abit KT7 with the same fan! it also went noisey, as you looked at it it would shudder and nearly stop, speed up again and do the same thing every few seconds (worn phospher bronze bushes)!! anyway I had a chat with my supplier who let me swop it for another off a used board that was being returned for another reason.
But as I said, either swop the heatsink for a bigger item (you'll have to nick it off another board)
Or another option is the thermaltake?? I think it is, blue orb replacement, around $10.
Don't forget a little thermal paste under the sink.
