Hi,
After using my machine for a short while, just connected to the web, the screen powered off and so did the machine. After turning the machine back on the bios beeped continually until i powered it off. There is no number of beeps to count because it carries on beeping until powered off.

Same result for several reboots.

Checked all the internal connections and rebooted sucessfully. Same thing has happened several times, could i be moving connections back in to place?

Thanks

Continuous beep is usually RAM. I'd try reseating first.

Ram has been checked connection wise (reseated), i have not checked if the Ram is technically o.k, but, the correct amount is showing as available (320 Mb). The machine has done the same thing without being moved several times. The problem is intermittent.

Could it be a motherboard problem?

by the way its a pentium III 450Mhz

Any more suggestions?

thanks for the input.

Might try it with one stick at a time and in different slots.

Jim

Howdy:

AMI BIOS:

Repeating short beeps: Power supply or system board problem

Continuous Beeping: Memory or video problem

Explanation: The system is producing constant beeping in no specific pattern, or a fast "ringing" sound.

Diagnosis: This is usually caused by a problem with the system memory, or possibly the video card. The memory is more likely--the system complains long and loud if it can't find any usable memory, as there is no way to even start the boot process when this is the case. The motherboard itself could also be the problem.
