Hi,

I have setup an NT4 domain to test the upgrade process to windows 2000 active directory.

The upgrade of my PDC completes fine untill it trys to contact a DNS server. I have got a BIND server running which resonds to querys fine using 'nslookup' but DCPROMO cannot find the server and displays the following error:

"Wizard cannot contact DNS server that handles "test.com"to determine if it supports dynamic updates" This must be a configuration within BIND!!

Please help I completely stuck.

Cheers.

A couple of suggestions:
1. Make sure that your BIND server supports dynamic updates - test it with a client.
2. Install support tools from the W2k Server installation CD.
3. Point the upgraded NT4.0 controller to the BIND server (if you haven't done this yet)
4. Run the following commands from DOS prompt on the upgraded DC:
"net stop netlogon"
"net start netlogon"
"netdiag /fix"
"ipconfig /registerdns"
5. Run "Netdiag /v" and check for errors. If there are errors connected with DNS server records reboot the DC and repeat step 4.
