BIG dns problem

I need a hand here, our pc's have to access a database in another state, now it's not getting through when I ping the database's ip it always returns back our hosts ip address!? our host is nothing to with the database or us. I've plugged a laptop into the router and it resolves the ip just fine. when i ping it from the server it always returns the wrong ip. It comes back with
Any idea's on what is going on? The strange thing is we have 2 offices and it's started doing it at both at exactly the same time?
 
I actually had this happen today as well, but on a Windows XP Pro machine using Win2k server for DNS. I think what finally fixed it was running
