Running an OLD version of TSM. 4.3.2, any good way to upgrading that to 5.2.x?

Or is this even possible?

What OS?

Make sure you have a database backup.

Uninstall the 4.3.2 version.

DO NOT REMOVE ANY FILES!!!!!

Install the new version into the same directory and watch the Database get updated.

FOLLOW THE README!!!

want to go from AIX 4.3.3 to AIX 5.2

I guess i will upgrade my OS first....

I hear TSM 4.3.2 won't run on AIX 5.2, so I guess I will upgrade TSM after I upgrade AIX.

What are the changes, of TSM not running after I upgrade AIX AND TSM? Is there a way to revert back to previous version of TSM.

so be sure to have a copy of you tsm db's,devconf.lst and volhost.lst before upgrading.

recover the TSM binaries, and the database? or just the database?

thanks for the replies!

What happens, if I upgrade and I notice adverse effects? And then I revert back to older TSM. Will my storage pools stay in tact?

as long as you have a database backup somewhere aside( together with your config files devconf.lst and volhist.lst), you storage pools will be safe.

COol! thanks guys! stars deserved!

To understand this, your storage pool is not touched at all? when performing an upgrade of TSM? The storage pool will be considered as a 'blackbox' ?

In a nutshell.

1. Migrate all the data from the diskpool to the tape pool.

2. Backup the database. Write down the volume name.

3. Backup volhist, and devconfig.
Save a copy of the volhist.out and the devconfig.out
once the backup complete.
If your not sure where its located, issue 'q opt' (no quotes) look for volhist and devconfig it should show the name of the file and were it is located. If there is no path it is in the same directory where the dsmserv.opt file is located.

4. Save a copy of the dsmserv.opt file .

5. Halt the TSM Server and migrate it to the next version.

In the TSM Quick Start Guide or the Installation Guide there should be information regarding how to migrate the TSM Server. I know, who reads the manual. :)

Good Luck,
Sias
