DO NOT BUY WIN ME. You will be sorry if you do. Also do not install Win ME. Win ME has more bugs than Win98 SE. I have both. However buy a Geforce?? video card. Do not buy ATI.
There are some pros and cons about WinXP. XP has the ability to use a lot more memory than Win 98. If you want to use 512Megs of memory you can not do it with Win 98. Of course you have to register your computer with Microsoft if you get Win XP. I don't know what would happen if you tried to reinstall WinXP. Ive used it but I have never installed it. I do know you have to activate the registration within so many days of the purchase or XP quits working.
I noticed Walmart.com was selling some Celeron 1.0 Gig computers for $399.99 with no operating system. Interesting marketing starategy. They probably don't have more than a 8 Meg Video Card, and wouldn't do too well with 3D games.
Don't depend totally on reviews about motherboards. A company can make one really good motherboard send it in to a few review sites and then produce 10,000 lemons. Go to sites where users who bought the board send in their feedback. As far as KT333 chipset goes you may find a lot of the features are not supported by the AMD Processors and the Hardware isnt made to take advantage of its speed. I think
and
The article in Toms Hardware compares the differences. The chipset supports an 8X AGP Slot but there is no such graphics card yet. You could take advantage of the PC2700 DDR memory, but how fast does the memory have to be for a Game?
I am playing 3D games with a 1.2 Gig Celeron, a Visiontek Geforce2 GTS-V 32 MB AGP Pro video card, and 128 Megs of PC100 Ram on an Asus TUSL2-C. The board uses an Intel chipset which is super stable. It can use PC133 RAM but I didn't buy any New RAM. This is one heck of a PIII/Celeron motherboard. It comes with plenty of USB ports, if that is what you want to use. It runs Emperor Sequel to Dune 2000 just fine at the default setting. It has never been crashed by a game. Can't keep my kids off my computer.
The VisionTek geforce2 GTS-V 32MB DDR (OEM) Video-out only video card has a 5 Star out of 5 possible Stars customer satisfaction rating at
and sells for $50.00. This is a really great deal. Of course if you want to spend $300 - $400 on a Geforce4 feel free to buy them if you can find an non-MX board. The video card and the motherboard are most important parts. If they are unstable nothing else matters to a real gamer. If you do not like my post feel free to point out your opinion or my errors.
