Bending/stretching shapes

Hi guys!

I'm relatively new to Illustrator, just for your info.

I recall the first logo I designed with this program, I was able to bend (and reshape) objects merely by puting my cursor over either an arc or a straight edge of that object. When over and arc, the cursor would show a small arc below the arrow, and when below a straight edge or a corner, you'd see a straight line icon in the cursor. Now, I can't for the life of me find that tool.

Am I confusing this tool with another program, or what am I looking for?

You may have used a very old version of Illustrator. This does not ring a bell.

You can modify arcs/curves by modifying points with the white arrow in your toolbox (direct selection tool).

If you are looking to modify an entire logo or bit of text by arcing, try looking under the Effect>Warp filters.

I believe this is also called envelope distortion in programs like Corel.

Thanks for your reply. The tool I remember using would only effect one side of the shape I was working on (or between 2 anchor-points as I should say).

I'm not looking to modify the whole logo with an envelope distortion.

I wonder if you're thinking of Freehand rather than Illustrator? I couldn't find an exact match in Freehand, but one of the tools seems to come close.

Hmmmmm... that could be right actually. I'll try to get a copy of that and see if it satisfies my curiosity. Thanks a lot guys!
