What do you want to test for? Is it optimum performance with specific components, computer stability or what?
A number of packages are available, both free and paid for:
* SiSoft Sandra
* BAPCo commonly used by the computer press for performance testing review kit.
* VNU Labs in the UK has the PC Magazine benchmarks.

Also there's the ubiquitous PC Mark and 3d Mark from Mad Onion; - it's quite entertaining to watch as well, unlike Sandra (although Sandra is more useful as a tuning aid).
