Where can I obtain the software to view the log my Router is capable of generating?
A N S W E R
The router has a built in log that can display information in two ways.
First, the log must be enabled and will need to be set to send the log output to a machine on the network. To do this open your browser and go to You will be prompted for a username and password. By default there is no username and the password is admin. Click on the Log tab from the Setup screen.
Once that is done, you will need to enable the log, and input the IP address of the desired log capturing computer (Preferably using a static IP address for that machine). There are also two buttons that will bring up pop-up windows showing the Router's most recent activity.
The incoming log table displays the source IP and Destination Port Number.
The outgoing log table shows the LAN IP, Destination IP / URL, and Service / Port Number.
To view the files on the computer you choose, you'll need to go to ftp://ftp.linksys.com/pub/befsr41/logviewer.exe and download the logviewer program.
This program will record and store the information from the log into two text files named "Incoming" and "Outgoing". These files have no size limit so we advise you to purge them periodically.

O.k., thanks. That helped me find where the Log tab was.
Can I send logs to an address that is not a 192.168.x.x address?
If I have a user that sets up a VPN connection from home over this type of router, can the logs only be sent to their home-pc or a PC on that local network?
If when they are connected to the router they have a 192. address, then after they establish their VPN connection, are the two "networks" able to talk to each other?
From what I can tell, they can't. Only machines on the 192.168.x.x network can talk on that network and machines on a 12.10.x.x network can only talk on that network.

Now that I thought about it, I don't think you could or would want the two to talk to each other. After they had setup their VPN connection, I would be able to log information like websites visited via a proxy/firewall. And while they are off the VPN and using their ISP, then I shouldn't be concerned about their traffic.
Still curious if logging/info could be sent to our Private network even if their not on it.

Pls check the logging utilities:
There are many better utilities than Linksys, even for free.
Linksys is capable of sending the logging info to the local broadcast address. If you enable netbios passthru in VPN-settings they will pass the tunnel to the other side.
Do not clog the tunnel with excessive information though.
