I am using a linksys befsr41 ver 2.0 and installed the new flash version 1.45.6. of June 24, 2003. From the moment i installed this router i am having connections losses: ICQ , MSN Messenger, Warcraft, Emule and Kazaa, they all suffer. I have only one port used and behind that two cascaded ethernet switches (8 ports) are there and in some moments a third cascade (a hub) too. I do not use the three other free ports on the Linksys, because it replaces now an old PC router with Freesco, which worked fine. I am now wondering why did i ever bought this linksys!! I am having 6 to 10 users spreaded over my network of who one is using e-mule and kazaa donwloaders regularly. I have a cable connection with 360 KBytes/s download and 48 KByte upload speed. We noticed that when using emule and kazaa software more intense, the connection losses occured much more frequently, in peaks at once every few minutes, all over the network, but without using the heavy traffic downloaders, losses were there maybe once in an hour. Does the amount of traffic makes sense to someone, what is wrong in this router? I get my IP adress automtically from the WAN side and have ranges of 10 times 100 ports (above 20.000) forwarded, 100 to each pc with a fixed IP (DHCP is set up for only the highest 50 numbers, 192.168.4.201 .. 192.168.4.250 in the network, the whole ip forwarding table is filled. The host page of this router is changed to 192.168.4.1 The pc's in the network are all in the reange 192.168.4.11 .. 192.168.4.21 Plz Help me! We are getting more and more frustrated by this linksys router!!

Hi,

First off -- let me start with: your post would be MUCH better if placed in the Linksys Networking forum (see: forum916 as the cable system forum is aimed more at the headend, outside plant, last mile, and perhaps even inside plant focuses, not so much problems with your CMTS bridge device, aka Cable Modem.

Let me ask you this first. Is there any loss if you're connected straight into the cable modem? Are you sure your signal level is sufficient coming into your cable modem? Have you contacted your cable utility to ensure that?

Have you tried removing all other switches and hubs and using just a direct link into the router?

Get it down to the most simple situation first and see if that's clean before expanding, and narrow down the problem.

Thanks Edports!
I did exsctly what you suggested about placing the whole story and question in the right forum. I did not however yet do the direct link test because it seems that as soon as i decrease traffic connection losses hardly appear and i will get some angry sons too.. lol .. but if needed they will have to wait. However, I am planning tests like you described later today or in this week. The problem is that i need to fake my mac address in my pc and with a regular netowrk card i do not know now how to do that. The linksys has a place to clone that mac address, my network card in my pc hasn't. That's a Sis 900 based PCI Fast Ethernet adapter (part of the mother board in this pc). I will ahve to think how i will proceed. Thanks anyway.

man i had the same problem i host multiplayer games with the befsr41 version3 as soon as 6 people connect bam connection gone!!i have to say waste of money as soon as upnp forwarding is enabled guess what youre ip is displayed.iwent back to using the links nr041 router, but the down fall with that is when dmz host is enabled down load speeds are cut in half, upload speeds stay the same.
