Hi,

I use both API Beep and normal Beep command in VB6 but it does not hear. The power box speaker is working.OS is Win 98 Sec.

sub command1_Click
Beep
end sub

Thanks,

Maha.

I am not sure but I remember that both of these function do not work on Windows 9x systems. They only work with Windows NT systems.

pretty sure beep API works on 9x and NT systems, but im not sure as to why its not working for maha12

is the frequency within range? (i think its 35 to 35000Hz or something like that) If somethings hard to do, its not worth doing - Homer Simpson

A straight up beep, either api or vb's SHOULD at least give you a noise of some sort. Do you have the volume turned up? Stupid question, but....

dragnut: not entirely sure but i dont think the system speaker has a volume control (well none of mine do anyway) If somethings hard to do, its not worth doing - Homer Simpson

Do you see the volume control int the systray? Make sure that nothing is muted and that its volume is all the way up. Then run you code and you should either hear your beep or a click sound. If you hear neither then you need to find some software. The name of it is something like Drivers for system speakers. Ok, maybe not, but those should be some good keywords to do a search on. I have a system that needed the drivers installed.

Good Luck

hi again.... are we talking about a system speaker as in the one built into the case or speakers connected to a sound card of some sort?!?

is there really a volume control for the system (case) speaker??

i can see system speaker in device manager (under system devices) but it says there is no drivers required for it?!?

am i talkin rubbish or have i completely missed the point?!? If somethings hard to do, its not worth doing - Homer Simpson

In XP & W2K (and possibly before) the volume control app, under Options|Properties allows you to control System speaker if you wish

cheers johnwm,

im running 2kpro and have found the system speaker volume slider, but it has no effect (neither does muting it)

and ive just checked on my XP machine and again its there but does nothing.

ADoozer:
Besides this discussion, you will be surprised to know that not only the volume of the system speaker is controllable, but the system is speaker is also able to play wave files without using a sound card!
