Hardware listed below is all brand-new:
HP Server with Netware 6.5 sp 4
HP Ultrium960 backup drive, Backup Exec 9.2 for Netware
LSI53C1030 external card using LSIMPTNW.HAM version 3.99.05 5 July 2005
NOTE: 2nd unit (same configuration) with exactly the same problems

Able to load and run backup exec. Create test job and results in the following errors after a few moments:
Error on HP ULTRIUM960 ID:3 HU10539H3G.
A hardware error has been detected during this operation. This media should not be used for any additional backup operations.
Data written to this media prior to the error may still be
restored.
Possible corrective actions for this error are:
1.) Use a different media
2.) Check the SCSI cabling.
Vendor: HP
Product: ULTRIUM960 DRV

Veritas says to use a different scsi drive.

Questions:
Is there a later ham driver that might solve the problem?
Is there a later firmware version that might solve the problem on the backup drive?
Anyone else had this problem and, if so, have you found a resolution?

BE will attempt to use it's own driver to access the deck. To check to see whether your problem is with the NW HAM driver running the SCSI card or the driver BE is using for the Ultrium, try using the built-in NW backup utility SBCON. SBCON is clunky and painful but it does work. If it backs up and restores properly then the problem is with the BE Ultrium drivers. If it fails there may be a problem with the HAM driver.
You'll probably want to use nwtape.cdm as the ultrium driver for SBCON, or there is also an atapi driver that may work. Instructions for SBCON are in the NW 6.5 Admin manuals.
