I am running Veritas BE 9.1 on a Windows Server 2000 box backing up Unix agents to tape(DLT). The problem is I am having difficulty doing a differential, everything runs as a full. I have it configured to do differentials during the week and fulls on the weekend, however it just does fulls.

I think the problem is that it is not resetting the archive bit when doing differentials. How can I fix this? Please, any help is greatly appreciated!

No such thing as archive bits on UNIX file system - so the way you are doing it won't work.

What you need to do with BE 9.1 is the following.

1. Create 1 selection list for the UNIX server - everything you want to backup.
2. Create 2 jobs using the selection list from Step 1 - the first one - Choose the Backup type as Full - Allow Inc and Diff's using modified time.
and the second one, use the backup type of Diff using Modified time.

Thank you so much for your quick response! I followed your instructions, modifying the full and differential jobs to use modified time instead of the archive bit. However, it has been two nights of differential jobs and both have still been running Full sized backups. Does it take a certain time for it to work, or possibly do I have to completed recreate the jobs instead of modifying the properties?

EDIT:

completely recreate
not
completed recreate

Thanks again!
