BE10 SMTP notifications do not work, not even the tests

Hi, usig BE10 on an exchange server 2K3. have a seperate email account for BE which is a domain admins. backupexec@company.com. have BE10 setup in the following way.
Enabled
SMTP server: ex2.domain.forest.com (also tried just the server name)
SMTP Port: 25
Sender Name: backupexec
Sender address: backupexec@domain.com

I cannot even get the test email to go through. there is simply nothing! I tried allowing the exchange to relay and still no success. can someone please help me! what other settings should i use/change?

From the backup exec server/command prompt try

telnet ex2.domain.forest.com 25

Do you get a Exchange SMPT reponse?

I got it to work using the FQDN. thanks for the help!
