Recently, one of my clients decided that it wasn't going to allow BE to back it up. I found that when the computer reboots, the BE service says that it is running, but in order for my BE server to back it up I need to stop the service and start it again. Then, i am able to select the drives for backup.

This happens with WinVNC as well. I need to stop the service and then restart it in order to connect to the machine via VNC.

I realize that this is probably a Windows Issue (XP SP2), but I thought maybe someone else had a similar problem. Thanks.

Is the Windows XP firewall turned on? If so, by default it's blocking some ports that BE uses. Check the Microsoft web site for more information.

I guess i should have mentioned that the firewall is on, and beremote.exe (10000) and WinVNC.exe (5900) are open and allowed. I tried turning off the firewall alltogether and I still wasn't able to connect. The only way that i can connect is to be sure that after i reboot the machine the backup exec and winvnc services are Manualy Stopped and then Restarted....this is the only work around that i have found so far.
