What is the tape performance? Check your Event-Log, are there some I/O Errors (ID 7, 9, 11)?
Try to update your SCSI and Tape Drivers (and Firmware).
If it's a SCSI Tape, which ID do you use? Try to use a low ID, example 2 (NOT 0 or 1! They are for booting Devices)

Is the job hung at 99%? If it is - you will need to change the alerts to automatically click OK to the media remove prompt.
