Has anyone else had this problem? Is there a command line interface into the BCM50 that might allow an individual port reset of the paging port? I assume if the page port is dead then I will have to swap the main chassis.
Based on my documentation the Black/'Orange pair is the ONLY place you can connect the paging output on the BCM50. Without doing trunk port paging and then I lose my ability to use the park and page feature.
Is this a new system? I've had 3 50's and 2 450's that had to be replaced because of dead paging ports. A real pain in the ass. You have to contact Nortel and go through their troubleshooting process so in the end they can give you an RMA number to have the unit replaced. God help you if you have to go through a stocking disributor though. Most of them try everything to prevent having to replace a box.
There's really not much you can do to troubleshoot this kind of problem on your own. All you can do is connect your butt set to the paging output port and try a page. As long as you specify external as your page choice (F62) you should hear your voice on pair 12 of your telco cable. If your sure your cable is ok, the problem probably resides inside the BCM. You can open it up yourself and check the connections inside but you risk voiding any warranty you might have (see comments regarding stocking distributors).
Thankfully we did not have to replace the box. And yes, trying to get a RMA through Nortel or a stocking distributor is a pain in the ass.
The problem turns out to be with the paging amplifier the BCM was connected to. The amplifier (Valcom 2001) has a MUZAK player attached to the Music input and the Paging input is attached to BCM. This scenario has been in place for almost a month and the paging stops working all of a sudden. We had to remove the MUZAK input from the Valcom to allow paging to work. In order to reconnect the MUZAK we had to reverse the polarity going into the Valcom. Without knowing if something was physically changed on the MUZAK end, it is a mystery as to why the polarity reversal solved the problem, especially after a month of working.
