I have a BCM50 1.0, completely patch up. I have ip phones on it with analog trunks. I get a bad echo on the trunks. I have replaced the unit, added the new GATI protective cable, tried every codec. At a loss. Has anyone ran into this problem?

Is your echo only on the IP phones? Are your lines VOIP and come in to you as analog?

they only have ip sets and they are just regular analog lines.

Do you get echo when dialing from phone to phone?

the BCM50 is up to date on patches and the problem only exist on external calls. The echo is not constant though. Its is really bad for about two seconds at the beginning of the call, then goes away.

By the way, the service update #3 patch has been recalled. It shuts down your BCM.

I think I found the problem. I checked the voltage on each line. When in an idle state, the voltage is about 51 volts, not bad, it should be 48 volts. BUT, when the line rings, it comes in at a whopping 171 volts. HMMMM.....Nortel says the specks on ringing voltage should be no more than 90 volts. Way to go telco!! They fried trunk ports on two BCM50's.
Thanks for all your inputs!!!

At 171 volts, your not connected to Telco, your connected to ComEd. Ha ha ha ha
