Batch Process on boot

Hi i have a number of app critical batch processes that are currently manually started on one of my servers. I want to automate these so that someone doesnt have to logon and start the processes. I have tried creating services, but as theses are dos and java based listeners it doesnt seem to work. I seem to recall a service that could be installed that ran in the background, so when the machine booted it just sat at logon screen but these processes were running away in the background. Kind of like old autoexec..........cant seem to find anything about it anymore tho
