can anyone tell me if there is a basic program that works in vista? the one I have says i don't have full page??

do you mean it won't go fullscreen? I had similar problems trying to get 16-bit programs to run on 32/64. You might want to get DOSBox - A DOS emulator. It will run in fullscreen.
