Basic to Essential Upgrade 2

Hi guys,
I have a basic edition version 9 I want to upgrade to essential version 11. Do I need to just get the essential and 11 upgrade PLDS licence, format and recreate the card to 11 and then upload the licence file with both licences? Or do I have to get a licence file for the old version and upgrade first to 11?

If it were me I would just get a new SD card and an essential license. The cost on that would be about 3 hours of my time at retail price. If it is basic there can't be that much programming involved. I am not a salesman, so I could be wrong, but when upgrading they hit you for upgrading the essential license. I know the ding you to upgrade the prefered license.

Thanks for the reply. Doesn't the cabinet need to be upgraded to version 11 with an upgrade licence? If I get a new card licenced with version 11, will the old version 9 cabinet upgrade without the upgrade licence?

Give me a few minutes and I will verify. I have a new system I am working on and old chassis sitting around the lab. I think I am right, but I would hate to hand out bad advice.

Okay. I used a brand new R11 SD card and a chassis that is dated 2015, so it would have been pre R9 with the locked chassis that would have required an upgrade license. It works like a champ. Monitor isn't barking about licenses and the digital set works just fine. You should be good to go.

Not a problem. We are kind of having a snow day here at work and the tickets I had got canceled. It also will help our team going forward with upgrading our customers. Talked to one of other techs for pricing and it looks like we would be money ahead to just get the new card. The other advantage depending on how old the system is the new SD cards are 8Gb versus 4Gb.
