I have a broadband connection which i share using a router (Dlink 704p)its not a wireless router. The computer is attached on it(i laptop and 2 desktops). How can i share folders with the other computer attached to the router? Thanks in advance

When you ran the Network Setup Wizard, there was a question that asked if you wanted to 'Turn on File and Print Sharing'. The default choice is set to 'Turn Off File and Print Sharing'. What did you select?

Also, please verify that the Server Service is running.

i trurned the windows sharing on. the server service is set to manual.

So, is the Server service 'Started'?

Yes the server is set to automatic now and i restarted the comp. even the tcp/ip services, ssdp discovery service,secondary logon is set to automatic now. i can view the 2 comps now but when i click it the same error that says its not accessible.

Okay, now we are getting somewhere.

1. What OS are you running on each machine?

2. Is the option for Sharing now available when you right click a folder?

3. Does each machine have an account on it that is identical in name and password?

4. If you go to a RUN line (Start, Run) and type \\computername, does it open up a window into that machine?

5. I know I have asked you this before, but I don't see an answer....have you tried to TURN OFF the Windows firewall?

Please turn it off and test connectivity.

winxp sp2 is running on each machine. and yes the sharing is now available. No to number 3 and 4. The windows firewall is turned off

Each machine should have an identical account.

Is the firewall off on all three machines?

Can you now ping each machine?

Do i have to log oh using the identical account before i ping the comps? The firewall is turned off on each machine.

I cant ping each machine but i can view them in my network places. I turned off the firewalls of each computer then started the services i mentioned above.

if i typed \\computer name an error pops up (no network provider accepted the given network path)

When you open the Workgroup in My Network Places, you see the other 2 computers now, right?

Can you dbl-click the computers and open it up to see the shared resources?

I cant open the computers in the workgroup an error occured saying You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permission.

Turn off Simple File Sharing.

Open Windows Explorer or My Computer, click the Tools menu, click Folder Options, click the View tab. Uncheck the Use simple file sharing (Recommended) box checked.

Make the account you are using to log on a member of the Administrators group.

Try to map a network drive to one of your other computer's shares.

1. Go to a command prompt,(Click Start, click RUN, type CMD and press enter).
2. Type NET USE x: \\computername\sharename (computername = computer name for the machine you want to access or IP Address instead of name). Sharename = name of share on the computer you are trying to access.

Let me know what happens.

Hi I have been having the same issue with my computers. I can't get tehm to ping each other and the new one seens to get set up fine but the old one is having isses connecting

Kalaxal,
Have you followed thru all the steps Patty & Chieftan99 suggested? (i.e. double checking the PC IP addresses to make sure they are on the same network)
Are you using a hub, router, or crossover cable?
Are the IP address static,(addresses typed maually), or are they dynamic (issued to the PC by another device running DHCP)
