I have a system that is coming up to a stop: c0000135 component not found blue screen.

The component is basehwiis32.

I can not find this anywhere or on any of my other xp systems. What is this and how can I get this repaired to get the system back up without losing data on the system?

0xC0000135: UNABLE_TO_LOCATE_DLL
Windows attempted to load a DLL file and encountered some error condition. Among the many possible causes are that the file is missing or damaged, or that there is Registry corruption.

I read through the first article and I could not find any dll by the name basehwiis32.dll in any of my systems. I have slaved the drive on another system and did a load hive and navigated to the system32/config/ and loaded the software file which did not produce any errors. I tried to look at your second link but it did not work.

What exactly is the basehwiis32.dll, I have not seen this file referenced before. No google or yahoo searches turn up anything on the file. Is there some sort of modification to the Windows install that will get me this file so that I can manually place it on the system in question?

sorry about the second link... MS removed that article...

see if you can get into SAFE MODE... if you can then run REGEDIT and search for that particular file, then delete that reference in the registry (but back it up first)...

also run AntiViral and AntiMalware checks in SAFE MODE... when I come across a file that has no info on the internet, then most likely it is a piece of (*%$££ malware...

base hw iis32.dll - sounds like it has something to do with IIS. Is any component of IIS installed on this system? Have you tried System File Checker?

Ben
I get the same stop message when trying safe mode. I figured it may be a bad link but I can't get in to find out. Is there a way to edit/search the registry on a slave drive where the install isn't being used.

As far as I know IIS wasn't running. I thought about adding iis to see if I get a file with that name but I also felt like if it was IIS related google would have turned something up. I will try installing IIS on another system to rule it out.

When you have the drive installed on another machine (or use BartPE on the current machine, you can load the Registry Hives and search or edit them as you normally would.

As an Administrator highlight one of the two following Keys, it will only be available for these Keys.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
HKEY_USERS

Highlight the required Hive name and see the option for loading Hives under the File Menu.

These two articles in the RegEdit Help are a good explanation of the process.

You might be able to make use of BartPE (a mini XP self contained on a bootable CD and run from CD).

I am now able to load windows but it will not let me click any executables and says for example rundll32.exe can't be found even though the files exist.

Have you run the system file checker? It sounds like you might have more going on than just a single missing or corrupt file. A chkdsk /r is probably also a good idea to do first.

I ran chkdsk, I have not run sfc. I will try that next.
