I have a 3640 router that is currently running IOS ver. 12.2. I am looking to replace that router with a new 3825 or 3845, but I see that there is an IOS option of either the IP base or Advanced Security (includes IOS/Firewall, IDS, SSH, IPSec). I don't believe I need the advanced version as this router is behind my firewall and is my gateway to a private routed network to all my remote locations. Your thoughts?

Is there a Cisco document that compares the two IOS's?

If you don't need stick to base , this is just more potential bugs and problems to deal with if get the secuity IOS. I always work under the KISS principal.

You can use the software advisor on cisco.com to compare feature sets.

If you don't need the features, it's pointless installing the enhanced image as it will increase your licensing costs for the device.
