i have just decided to wipe my hdd's [two 80gb seagates raid 0] by breaking the stripe then recreating raid 0 array. perfect... 149000mb unallocated space.

i own two os's: winxppro and winxp64.

upon boot:
winxppro hangs at "BOOT FROM CD:" then get "base- code rom id structure not found".
winxp64 goes into setup and installs flawlessly.

i tried to boot to both cd's on another computer and the winxppro did not enter setup. the last time i installed winxppro on a machine was two weeks ago. i always take good care of my cd's so i dont think the disk is bad, plus i can browse the files with no problem.

thoughs? thanks in advance!

It clearly does not want to boot from the CD, and is then attempting a PXE LAN boot.

The error message is either because there is no PXE support on the LAN adapter, or the PXE ROM is damaged.

i installed xp64 then inserted xppro cd in windows, the setup screen had "INSTALL WINDOWS XP" ghosted out [could not click it]. i think this has something to do w/ the win64 beta version programming [cant install other os]. just wanted to point that out.

could you recommend a course of action from here, ive tried everything.

Did you create partitions? If there is essentially a single partition you will not be able to install a second OS.

My preference would be to create three partitions:
1. for XP-32 (32 Gig)
2. for XP-64 (10 Gig)
3. for common data

I would start fresh, the complication being that your XP-32 CD is unbootable.

First, download a Win98SE boot image:
Use this to remove any existing partitions; to create the first new partition, and format.

Second, boot to C:, create a folder i386, and copy the XP-32 \i386 folder. Now install XP-32 from that folder by typing winnt.exe

Third, boot and test your XP-32 installation.

Fourth, Use Disk Management in XP-32 to create the second and third partitions as NTFS. Use the convert. exe utility to convert drive C: to NTFS:

To convert a volume to NTFS from the command prompt
Open Command Prompt. Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, and then click Command Prompt.
In the command prompt window, type: convert drive_letter: /fs:ntfs

Fifth, now boot from XP-64 and install on the second partition.

i am attempting to decipher your good words althought they are a little over my head (ive gotten this far, right) with fdisk i created a partition that can only be a max size of 2+ gigs. but i am, currently, hung up on the actions to create a file called "i386", let alone how i access the "i386" folder from cdrom drive to copy to "i386" folder on c: drive. even thought i just explained it, my "brain-ial" interface is not dos compatible (yet). if you have another minute could you try to elaborate some more... BEAR WITH ME GOOD MAN, TY!
