Barcoding Shop Floor Data

We are looking at barcoding shop floor activity in Macola. I found a thread back in 2001 regarding this, but nothing more recent.

Any suggestions - pros/cons regarding bar coding. Currently our shop employees write the shop order, operation, quantity and time on a shop order and we manually enter this data into shop floor activity. I would like to eliminate the dual entry and have the shop employees enter it real time.

I am not convinced a great deal of time is saved in bar coding vs a terminal where they enter the data since there is a minimal amount of data entered for each transaction. I would appreciate others opinions, experience, thoughts on this.
