Is there a way to add a banner page on a netware 5 server??? Microsoft allows you to have a login banner page that you can say this is company standard equiptment. Is there a way you can add that on a netware server when you rconj into it????

what for the server name is on the screen

but my work wants a banner page every time someone uses that machine that says "this is property of whoever and dont use it for anything but work related issues". But when you connect using rconsole it just pops in the server with no notifications

If you like the way Microsoft works, then you probably shouldn't be touching a Novell server. <grin>

The thing about Novell is that you have more than one screen. (Do you have that option with MS?) I mean I guess you could create a Bitmap image that does what you want and put it as the background in the GUI. However, there's no reason to even load the gui on NW5.0.

But even if you put it there, you wouldn't see it on the many other screens that are available so it would be rather pointless..

Well its not my choice, its a mandate from the company that all servers have to have a logo banner stating that this is a work related box and that nothing other than work can be done on it before the log into the box. So that why im trying to figure out how.

no should really be going to the server anyway except one or two people - they need to be trusted admins anyway

at the server you could only do work stuff anyway

if it's 5.1 or above then what you could do is unload rconag6 and rconsole
secure the console and say that the only way people are allowed to access it remotely is via portal

with that you can put the message on the portal login page

i appreciate where you stand but really the managements request is just stupid

It wouldn't make any difference if a banner Bitmap was there or not because if you used remote software to connect to it (RConJ for example), it probably would not show the bitmap anyway (unless this has been changed in later versions of RConj?).

The best way of securing a NetWare server is to use the screensaver NLM (SCRSAVER.NLM if memory serves). This way, anyone who wants access to the server will have to type in their username and password to deactivate the screensaver.

Does any one know of a way to edit the scrsaver.nlm, because everytime i try its encrypted or im not using the right utility.

What do you mean by edit the screensaver NLM?

Well i was thinking if I could edit the scrsaver.nlm. Maybe I could call a batch file or something that would type to the screen what I needed, before it actually locked the screen. So next time they came back in it would be the active screen. Not sure if it would work, but im kinda fishing right now.

No offence, but NetWare 'aint no Microsoft server! With SCRSAVER.NLM you get the standard NetWare snake and you can only unlock the screensaver if you have Supervisor equivalent rights to the server. Lets be honest, unless your security is really poor, no one apart from System Admins should be allowed near the servers or have remote access to them.

Print some labels, stick to side of monitor. That is your best solution. Again, your average joe user won't be logging in remotely, and even if they did, it's not like they're going to play solitare on it.

is the server bog standard 5 or is it 5.1
if it's 5.1 then you can disable rconsole and rconag6 and make the only remote access to the server through portal
you would be able to get a banner page from this
this as ideas go sucks but if you are intend on doing this kind of thing then it's your only one
