Hi All,

I have two sites connected together via a serial leased line running at 192K. Both ends use a Cisco 2610 Router with a serial WIC card.

The A end houses 3 Citrix servers and a email server, the b end has approx. 50 thin client terminal devices, and 20 laptop users.

The thin client devices run great on the 192K bandwidth. The problem I am getting is when the lap top users download large email attachments and / or files over the 192K circuit. This saturates the bandwith and slows the thin clients right down to a unacceptable speed.

Can I set up the routers to prioritise the Citrix traffic over other traffic?
Or give say 75% bandwidth to the thin client terminal users at all times?
Or is there a better way to accomplish this?

All help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

do you have any quality of service specified on your router? i don't have much experience with QoS, but one of the cisco books i have describes a few options. based on what i read, it seems weighted fair queuing may be good for you. the command is fair-queue

this will configure a bunch of queues, one for each session. the router rotates through each of the queues one at a time and sends one waiting packet from each queue. if there is no packet waiting, then the router moves on to the next queue.

i haven't personally used this option before, so use caution!

Thanks for the link Longneck,

Wow! This is a minefield...

What would you recommend for me, I want to allow 64K of Citrix ICA traffic through at all times when required on the 192K link. I.e. only 128K is availbale for all other traffic types IF Citrix ICA requires 64K bandwidth.

Which end of the router should this be setup on, or both ?

Hope you can assist further.

Thanks very much.
