Bad sectors gone when convert to NTFS

Morning,

My 40Gb hard drive developed bad sectors under WinMe..


However upgraded to WinXP pro and converted to NTFS the local disk management displays the partitions as healthy.

Does NTFS ignore the bad secors? or is the healthy designation mean something else?

Can I safely continue to use the disk or should i invest in a new one?

I'd run chkdsk on it, and get hold of drive manufacturer's integrity checking software (they nearly all have one on their website). If both run ok, you should be ok to carry on using the drive.

This is normal.

During the conversion the bad sectors identified by ME were blocked and de-allocated. They are not re-used as "good" sectors.
