When I try to use CFGRID or CFTREE I cannot get my pages to work using these tags on some of our servers because apparently these servers are somehow not Java-enabled.
What do I do to "java-enable" these servers so I can see my pages using these tags on the server (currently not set up properly to view CFGRID or CFTREE) I want to show them on?
The message on the bottom message bar of the browser) down at the bottom shows a "Bad Magic Number" error.

I don't think CFGRID or CFTREE needs java on the server, but java is required on the client's browser...

It's been my experience that the CF java apps (CFGRID, CFTREE, CFSLIDER, etc.) are not very useful since there is so much potential for problems on the client end. You're probably better off doing these things with javascript or tables, where you're MUCH more likely to have less problems on the client side....

Thanks for the quick response. What you said makes good sense in terms of using these features at all. But before I give up completely...
If it's a client browser issue, why do these tags work on one server I use and not the other? I have Java virtual machine turned on as option. And I can see these pages on this browser when I use another server. Something is not set up properly on my machine for the "Bad Magic Number" server.
And if this is not all, there is another message:
load: class allaire.controls.cfGridFormApplet not found. (in addition it says other java.lang etc. classes not found depending on whether I am calling grid or tree.
Any further wd be appreciated. Thx.

I wouldn't know for sure, but it looks to me like maybe you're missing some files on your server. If you have access to two servers, you may want to compare the directories under the C:\CFUSION directory to make sure.

I haven't done a lot of work with Java, but from what I understand what's embedded in your html calling the different Java classes come from the browser as requests to the server no differently than any other file request, and pretty much (as far as my knowledge goes, anyway) any error message saying "not found" means your file isn't there. I hope this helps...

Thanks for your help. This should put me on the track. I'll look at it tomorrow as I'm going home now  - Aimskee
