I have a Geforce3 ti200 overclocked to 240/475
an athalonxp1600
and 256mb ddr ram
I am running winxp pro

When i run games in open gl mode i get very high framerates, (constant 100fps @1024x768 in counter-strike) Howeven when i run them in direct 3d my frame rates drop significantly. (i get around 30-40fps @1024x768 in counter-strike). Mipmap detail level is set for best performance and v-sync is disabled.

Is this normal for a geforce 3 to perform so badly?

No, that's not normal. My Geforce 3 (not TI) gives absolutely outstanding performance in XP. I'm going to ask a possibly stupid question, but... you HAVE installed the latest as-of-last-week nVidia drivers for XP right? The default drivers for XP performed almost exactly like you described.. great OpenGL performance, spotty performance in Direct3D.

One other possibility is your AGP driver for your specific motherboard chipset.. for example, a Via chipset will have a set of drivers called the 4-in-1 driver pack, that will update other things besides your AGP driver. Intel has their own drivers, and so on. Try to figure out what chipset you have, and then search around for a more recent AGP driver.

I am using 23.11 drivers (the latest 1s i downloaded that work with the NVIDIA refresh rate fix). My motherboard agp driver is up 2 date. I have an ECS K7S5A motherboard.

Is there a program that can fix the 60hz refresh rate limit with the latest NVIDIA drivers? I will download the new drivers now and see if my direct3d performance increases.

The latest drivers solved the problem and i managed to find a program that fixed the refresh rate. I now get 100fps in counter-strike, its not constant like in opengl but still its not bad.
I hope ms fixes the refresh rate problem soon though.
