Please could someone give me a definitive answer to this question ?.

If something is created on a PC using Version 6 - would this be compatible with version 4.1 MAC.

I will be creating newsletters and so on then sending them to a printer who uses a MAC ( V. 4.1 ) ... havent purchased the software yet so would like to know in advance

manfromdorset,

Your question breaks down into two parts, which unfortunately have different answers:

1. Can the Mac version of Quark open a Quark file generated on the PC?

Yes, but your printer will have to have Mac versions of the fonts you're using.

2. Can Quark 4.1 open a file created in 6?

Unfortunately, no; the file formats are incompatible. Quark 6 can save files in version 5 format but not as any version before that. Version 5 can save files in version 4 format but not as any version before that. Version 4--well, you get the idea. Quark still sells version 5 in the USA and likely in other countries as well, so you might want to consider buying that.

I send PC files to Mac-based printers all the time and have never had a serious problem, but the printers I use and I are all on the same version level (4.1).

Before you spend money on Quark you need to address all these concerns with your printer, to get specific technical advice on your particular project.

hi billdetty

based on your helpful response to the query from manfromdorset, i wonder if you could help me too.

i have just purchased V6.0 for mac, but need to save and CFO documents for V5.0 mac. i have created and saved my document as V5.0 but when i go to cfo, it asks me if

'ok to save project before continuing with collect for output'?

if i save (rather than cancel which is the only other option), i can only save as a V6.0 project and not a V5.0 document. Does this mean that my cfo is V6.0 and i assume that my V5.0 user cannot open this to process for print?

many thanks

the dreamer
