Hi

My nightly backups keep failing at a certain point. It does one folder, then stops every time.

We have re-create the database file without success, the tapes are sufficient size but i dont know what to try now.

We use a Novell server and ARCserve 9. Any help on trying to eliminate the problem would be greatly appreciated.

Steve,

This is pretty broad. Can you narrow things down a bit? Eg do you get an error in the Arcserve log, if so what is it? If you change the scope of the backup does it still fail, ie don't backup the folder at which it normally fails? Are you using a backup agent? Has this ever worked, and if so has anything changed prior to the failures?

I will try but excuse me if I'm a little vague as its new to me.

The backup alwasys says complete, but yet not all the files are there. It always stops after the same folder so I tried to exclude that folder and it stops at a different point.

The job log says the backup was complete, but yet we cant see the files when we try to do a restore. I did just notice an error message in the folder that it fails on saying:

E3150 Failed to insert record

So I will try delete the file the corresponds to that message and see what happens.

And to answer some of your other questions, yes it always used to work, and by backup agent I think that means the aoftware we use to run backups etc? We use Computer Associates BrightStor ARCserve backup manager.

I will let you know.

to add to the previous message, even though there is the error message it still continues along till it gets to the end and says backup complete. so i'm not sure, but i will try again now i have deleted that file

Hey Steve,

Hope this doc might be of use:

Also try to increase the bti.cfg settings
============================================
For example if you have 1 gb of ram,this is what u should have:
Maxfiles:200
Maxcursors:200
Cachesize:131072
Backgroundthreads:25
Maxclients:120

If it is 512 MBRAM then,Bti.cfg should be like this

MaxFiles = 200
MaxClients = 120 MaxCursors = 120
Cachesize = 65536
B/gThreads = 25
Maxwrkrthreads = 25

Restart the server and the arcserve and check how it goes!!

Good Luck and Cheers!!!
