I am using BackupExec 9.1 w/ service pack 3, Benchmark DLT VS80 on a Server 2003 platform with Exchange 2003.

Problem started 20 Sep when our scheduled backup completes saying that it was successful but when I check no files have been backedup. Ran backup again and watch to see what it was doing and noticed that it run for only 7 seconds and then end saying it was successful.

Test runs were successful, inventory was successful, using Veritas drivers, tried restoring a file and was successful but cannot backup any files. No errors were found.

Help

You must backup the exchange thru the exchange agent. If you backing up the exchagne directory at the drive level backup exec will skip then due to active file exclusions and complete as you say with no byte count.
If you make the registry in the above technote it will just show the files skipped. So you need to select the exchange information thru the exchange agent icon if your licensed for it. If not you will need to stop the exchange services

Finally got my backup running. The article you provided was not exactly what I was looking for but that article gave me a clue to what I did wrong. I remembered that I did create a file exclusion job before the problem started which I did not code correctly. The exclusion I made turned out to exclude everything in subdirectories. Deleted this job and my backup started running.

Thank you again. Without your assistance, I might have had to reinstall BE and could have made things worst.
