I have an Option 11 with Meridian Mail and a SSC card.
What do I need to connect an external tape drive to backup Meridian Mail?

backup the meridian using LD 143 XBK

for mail you will need a Tanberg SLR4 and 250meg data tapes i use imation DC6250 and a scusi cable that plugs into the scusi port on the mail card and the tanberg needs to be set to 1 at the rear.

The SSC card does not back up to a tape drive. You can back up to your pc if you would like. just log in and do an XBK from TTY0, then save teh file to your laptop.

Or.

Find a 128MB PCMCIA drive (good luck) and archive your database to the card. If you are Succession 3.0, your initial software came with the system on a PCMCIA card. If you don't have that, call the person that upgraded and ask where the software is.

Or

If you are familiar with PDT you can copy the database.rec and the config.rec files and save them somewhere on your network.

But

I have never seen a "tape" backup of an Option 11, that wasn't just for the mail.

Gibblett meant backup the system to internal or PCMCIA not to a tape bakeup.

This is an Analogy so don't take it personally as some have.

Why change the engine if all you need is to change the spark plugs.

Wow. I completely misread that. I am glad it is 5pm.

How is the Tape drive cable connected to the Option 11 Meridian Mail?

Remove the faceplate from the MerMail-unit, located in slot 10
of the first Option11 cabinet.
Behinde it you'll find a SCSI-terminator plugg, is a small chrome plugg sitting on one of the circuit boards.
Remove it and connect the SCSI-cabel to the socket where it sat.
Now enter into the MerMail menu and do the backup.
Remember to put back the terminator-plugg when your done.

I have looked at your Member Profile and you have never given anyone that has answered your questions A STAR for helping you and I don't see where you have tried to Help anyone else by answering there questions. This is a 2 way Forum here and you have only been taking. Sorry if this sounds rude, but I just read one of your other Threads
