Backup stops without Errormessage: Arcserve 6.51, WinNT4.0 Server SP6a

Hello!
I hope, someone can help me.
My Arcserve Installation has not changed and has worked for many years.
Now, suddenly, the backup onto dds4-catridges run for about 2 hours, then, in the middle of the job, the backup stops.
The log-file only says: "Backup cancelled" - without an errormessage or exact reason.
I set the log-file to maximum detail - but there is no hint, where there might be a problem or error.
The files for the backup are on a local drive of the backup-server, and there are no file-access-restrictions in that folder, where the last files have been successfully backuped.

Where could be the problem?
There is enough free disk-space on the server,
the dds4-catridge has enough space and the server enough free ressources.

Is your ARCserve version 6.5 or 6.61 (version 6.5 does NOT support DDS 4 technology) ??
Also try to find out if anything happened to the system (OS, cables, tapedrive cartridges) prior to this sudden failure.

Sorry, i have the version 6.61 advanced Edition running (build 834SP1). Unfortunately nothing has happened to the system. I also tried to stop and restart all the arcserve-engines - without success. I also modified the backup-job a little bit and saved it again - but nevertheless there was no change to the problem - the backupjob cancels - without any given reason or error-message.

So please - if you or someone else has tips - give them to me. Thanks a lot.
 
Sorry, the reason for the problem was:
the tapedrive!!!
the hardware-compression wasnt working any more.
i had to change it.
nevertheless: thank you!
