I have two Webserver in a DMZ. I have made images of these server in case of disaster recovery but the content sometimes changes. Every few weeks or so.

The servers don't have tape drives and i was wondering how would you daily backup servers who are standing in a DMZ without a tape drive?

If we have servers like this we normally make a backup to disk to a server that has a tape drive. But in this case that would mean you have to open the firewall to one of your servers and i am not very keen on that part.

So my big question here would be.

How do you backup servers that are in a DMZ?

thanks

We do the part you are not very keen on, namely open the necessary ports between the LAN and DMZ for the backup software.

If it doesn't leak oil it must be empty!!

Well I have been looking around and it looks like it is the only way.

I think i will just manually open the firewall once a month an move some backups to a safe location. The contents doesn't change much so is not really big problem but i was curious how other people would solve this.

Thanks for the answer and if somebody else has an idea i would be happen to hear it.

Well if it's only the web content that changes then you can just zip up the folder every night and maybe have an ftp session automatically send the data to another server that has a tape. Meanwhile, you can keep your disk images for the OS and IIS configs...
