Is there a way to backup/restore a specific user in Exchange 2007?

Symantec Backup Exec 11d will allow restore of individual messages / folders. However there is a MUCH better way :)

ntbackup gets extended when you install Exchange. You can use it to backup Exchange. This will NOT give you what you want, but it IS free.

Microsoft wrote the tool and it is blazingly fast. Then buy yourself a copy of Quest's Aelita Recovery Manager for Exchange. This allows email level restore from ntbackup / tape. So you backup once, really fast and use that to do full DR and partial too. The only cost is Aelita and you look great.

Plus you don't need to spend weeks deploying Symantec and working out how it works.

If your company doesn't want to spend money on this, you still can do it by ntbackup. But you need to backup the whole storage group, and restore it to Recovery Storage Group, then restore specific mailbox from there. It is a time-consuming job using this method.

Appreciate the info everyone! I'll likely stick with the NTBackup...
