Hi,

Am having what I assume is a very basic problem...

I am moving a datacentre from one part of the country to another in very short timescales.

I have to backup and restore around 1TB of data onto an LTO library and restore it at the other end.

On a trial run I backed up the drives rather than the sahes in the hope that it would take the shares and the ACL's with it...no joy though.

is there a official; way to do this? What BE options do I need? The data is being restored to servers with just the O/S on them.

Cheers

James

Backup exec will not restore the share information since this is contained in the registry/system state on your sources server. Backup Exec is not a migration utility its a disaster recovery solution.

On the source server take a backup of..

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\lanmanserver\Shares - then import this on your new server.

Note however, the drive letters must be the same - also the Domain must be the same.
