Hi,

I'm looking into buying a new server for my company, it's only a 7 machine network. Windows Small Business Server 2003 looks like what I'll be going for, but I've got a question that I can't seem to find a definate answer for anywhere.

The server I'm looking at comes with a DVD +/- burner fitted. It's very imnportant that we can have some sort of automated backup system that backs up everything to media to take home every night. Doing it manually at the moment takes up too much time. My problem is that I've been getting conflicting answers from people as to whether Windows 2003 SBS allows you to schedule an automated backup to a DVD. Some people say yes, and others say no, only works to a network share or another HD.

I only need to backup critical docuements/personal files, and Sage accounts data, it's nothing complicated. All will be stored on the server HD.

Can someone clear this up for me? I think I'd be killed if it turns out we spend the money and it doesn't work as planned :) I'd really appreciate the help.

Many thanks,

Daniel Briley

I'm almost certain that Windows backup won't backup to a DVD burner , you could schedule a backup to a file on the servers hard drive and then burn the file to DVD at the end of the day.

An alternative would probably involve purchasing some other backup software.
