Dear All,
I am running Backup Exec V8.60 Rev. 3878 2000 server. Backup's have been running fine for the past few weeks but since the weekend it has not been right. The backup had attempted to run over the weekend, and had been running for X amount of hours and had not even started to backup. I clicked on the job in the activity monitor to cancel it but it did not cancel properly. So, I closed BE down and opened it backup, the job is still there and not stopped, this timne when I go to click on the job to cancel, it is greyed out and I canno't cancel it. The only way I have found to cancel the job was to stop all the BE services running on the server and start them up again, when I go back in BE the job has now been cancelled. Yesterday I ran a few backup test's to make sure the same was not going to happen for Monday night's backup (yesterday) but I could not get it to run again and after about 5 attempts I gave up. One thing I did notice is that one of the BE services was stopping each time I ran a backup test, the service is:
BackupExec 8.x Job Engine. - Assuming this was the cause and that somewhere along the way this service had become "stuck" even though I was stopping it and starting it again I scheduled the server for a restart. After the restart last night I left the server in the hope that the next scheduled daily backup would run.
I came in this morning to find that, not only had the backup not run the scheduled daily job had vanished ?, checked all the BE services, all still running, anyway, I have a short time ago attempted a manual backup and suprise suprise it failed, it seem's to get as far as 17 seconds in and then stops.
Below is a error log:
Event ID: 7031
Source: Service Control Manager
The Backup Exec 8.x Job Engine service terminated unexpectedly. It has done this 2 time(s). The following corrective action will be taken in 0 milliseconds: No action.
It would seem that this error is being logged each time the backup is attempted.
Has anyone seen this before? Or can anyone help in anyway? I am stumped and don't know what to try next, any help greatfully recieved!
Cheers
