I am planning on backing up our server to external hard drives via firewire. What is the best software to use to do this? We had tape backup previously but have had nothing but problems with it. Please give me a recommendation on software that will easily backup and restore via firewire external hard drives.

thanks in advance.

I dont think NT 4 supports firewire, you will need to upgrade to 2000 or XP

actually there is a firewire card that does support NT 4
(fireboard 800). It is getting the external drives that i can't seem to find.
Question: If i were to make a backup from my Win2000 workstation(full server image - which is NT4) would it be possible to backup. Iomega has a drive that actually has backup software that comes with it and copies an exact harddrive image.

Q

Call the guys that make the card and ask them what drive will work with it. Again as I said it might be an issue with NT 4.0 using firewire. The other option would be to attach the firewire drive to a win2k wks and send your backup to that. However, you have to be careful, sometimes the cache is not flushed when you try and remove the drive and could result in corrupt data. I can recommend acronis which will let you snapshot your server. The link is you can download an eval from there.
