Backup fails due to Tape struck issues(while loading or while ejecting) and on restarting services backup works fine. Sometimes restarting the services does not help, need to reboot the networker server itself.
this started after upgrading to 7.3.3.
Have checked with the Tapelibrary vendor he confirmed everything ok with the library and is updated with latest drivers and firmware.
Have done the following:
Windows rsm is disabled
cleared nsr\tmp
cleared jobsdb
Sometimes nsrjb -HHEv gives error message "No jukeboxes are currently usable."
rebooting NWR server fixes and nsrjb -HHEv soft resets the jukebox
backup job works fine for that week...again on the weekend backup fails for either tape loading or for tape ejecting
Have to redo the above cycle of steps all over again..this is gooing on for weeks...How can i fix this permanently?
Any help will be greatly appreciated

It seems that you might need to increase the hidden load/unload timers for your jukebox.

Thank you 605(Instructor)..Will check and get back...hope that fixes

Hi 605...
Sorry to say that the timers did not help me
timers all seem to be fine....Drive's idle timeout, device load, tape load, tape sleep.
is it to do something with NMC not getting refreshed..gstd connection breakup...
just my doubt...waiting for your clues...pls help

Sorry, i have no idea except the usual - name resolution, firewall, antivirus and similar.

Try to isolate the problem, if possible.

1. H/W: Have you checked the connection between server & library? or try to connect to another server to isolate the problem.

2. I got a lot of problems with 7.3.2., so I upgraded to 7.4 directly and skipped 7.3.3....

lgtobangaram ,

Try running an "inquire -lc" if you have a Unix system or if Windows check to see if the OS is picking up these devices. If not it will need a reboot of the ns every time it loses a device.

Thanks TheDugsBaws..yes it is window's system...that's what we are ending up doing everytime and you can guess what a pain it would be...

can you tell us whoch library you are using ?
how is ist attached ? Fibrechannel ?

Can you make a Inventory of your Jukebox without any errors ?

2drive quantum 1500 series
scsi
yes i can but sometimes i get JB not available
Quntum guys says no drive issue...firmware/drivers are upto latest..but one thing to make note of is issue started after upgrading to 7.3.3(from 7.3.2)

I dont know this type of jukebox, but try to use "auto_eject".
In the nmc select Menue "view" entry "diagnostic mode".
On the jukebox properties you now see an advanced register, there you can select the auto_eject checkbox.
Some newer libraries e.g. The Overland Neo4048 have this feature. After the tape end mark is reached the jukebox autoejects the tape. When Networker issues an eject command it causes an error because there is no longer a type in the drive.
After 20 errors the jukebox will be disabled.
