Hi,

Two days ago I've installed windows server 2003 and arcserve 11 on a file server. The files should be backed up on a tape libary (adic scalar). I created the jobs and backup started without problems.

Today I took a look on the log files: Every job has failed.
He has encountred the following errors during the backup:

W3716 - Unable to write continuation block

E6304 - Unexpected SCSI SenseCode ==> JobID[20], Device[10], ABSL[4040], SN[CX911S1612],CMD[ah],[Invalid Field In CDB], ASC[24], ASCQ[00]

E6300 - Windows NT SCSI PORT Error

E3719 - Unable to write to media. (Media=18.12.04 23:03 [S/N: ], EC=ILLEGAL COMMAND)

Also I found EventID 117 in the System Log:
The driver for device \Device\Scsi\symmpi2 detected a port timeout due to prolonged inactivity. All associated busses were reset in an effort to clear the condidtion.

And the ServeRAID Manager which is installed too means: Defunct drive: controller 2, channel1, SCSID 1 - I think I can ignore this message - or is ServeRAID clever enough to handle tape libaries?

Or perhaps the only error I have is a bad media?

Thanks in advanced

Thanks for your reply. I'm in holydays now but a colleague has opened a case for hardware problems at IBM. Hoping the IBM technican can help us to determine where the error is coming from ... SCSI card or ADIC Scalar Tape Libary ... we'll see.

I'll inform as soon as I know more.

Wishing you all the best for 2005!

This is why it was suggested to make sure the Tape Engine is current
