We started to receive the following error on the S8300 for our backups.

Server Alarms:

ID Source EvtID Lvl Ack Date Description
1 BKP 10 MIN Y Sat Mar 07 01:30:06 PST 2009 40: FTP of backup image to CA at 10.60.6.31 failed -- Scheduled Backup terminate
0 BKP 10 MIN Y Fri Mar 06 01:30:06 PST 2009 40: FTP of backup image to CA at 10.60.6.31 failed -- Scheduled Backup terminate

Since I am somewhat new to the server area of the S8300 The only thing I was able to find was the follwing log and the reason for the failure

The final status for your backup job is shown below.

backup: 40: FTP Error: Login or password incorrect!
backup: 40: FTP of backup image to CA at 10.60.6.31 failed -- Scheduled Backup terminated for xln
Performing ERROR RECOVERY, please wait.....
Can't locate object method "quit" via package "ftp" (perhaps you forgot to load "ftp"?) at /opt/ecs/sbin/backup

Where do I find this login and password that is incorrect? Is it in the S8300 server or is it the login and password for the location where it is to be stored?

vi /etc/cron.d/webbackup*

This file will have a login and password used for ftp

It will look something like this:

webbackup -b -w -d ftp://'prflash':'prflashpw'@10.60.6.31/\prod -c -- full

FTP of backup image to CA at 10.60.6.31 failed"

It is the login and password of whatever is running FTP @ the above IP of 10.60.6.31

someone probably chnaged the login/pw on you, and you need to fix it in the "schedule backup" link on the maint web page, once you figure out what the login & pw are supposed to be.

Thanks all. I find it kinda of funny that Avaya called us on only 1 of my switches. I took a look at all the S8300 and S8700 i have and they all are failing the backup.

There are bugs in CM that have to do with backup failures not being reported as alarms to Avaya.
There are patches available for this.

Also check with your IT group and see if their FTP server is having problems or if they changed the IP address. I have this sort of problem around here way too often.

Thanks to all for the input. I found the issue and the culprit. Have gone ahead and changed all the passwords to the correct one. Even found that one of our servers that has been in place for almost 2 years was never set up to run a back-up.
