We have Backup Exec 8.50 Rev. 3571 running on a Windows 2000 Server with Exchange 5.5. I have Notifications setup in Veritas Backup Exec, and every day I get this in my email: (Server: "HERMES") Job "Backup 0030" failed.:::logfilenameC:\PROGRAM FILE S\VERITAS\BACKUP EXEC\NT\DATA\BEX45.txt. I believe the reason the backup is failing is because of Exchange.
Here is a copy of the backup log file:

Any help on this would be appreciated and helpful.
Thank you.

Your database online backup appears to be working, it's the brick backup of the mailboxes that is tripping up over corrupt items in particular mailboxes. Get these users to sort these items out (they're almost certainly not readable and should probably be deleted from their mailboxes).

We have tried in the past to remove these files, but we were unable to find :
WARNING: "Wayne XXXXXX [XXXXXX]?Finder?Search Folder?Outlook 10 Message Manager (Outlook)" is a corrupt file.
This file cannot verify.

WARNING: "Wayne XXXXXX [XXXXXX]?Top of Information Store?Inbox?Outlook 10 Message Manager (Outlook)" is a corrupt file.
This file cannot verify.

Is there a tool or something that we can use to clean up the Exchange Store?

Nothing is wrong with the exchange store in my opinion. What's wrong is Backup Exec. Go to the Vertitas Website, it has instructions on how to clear up the "failed" backup when it runs into a file it cannot verify. Rest Easy, it is being backed up.

As for your "in use" and skipped, you need to have the advanced open file or open file option enabled. Then Backup Exec will back up your data even when it's in use.

I got the Veritas article at But I noted that it says:
"Please note, this solution is not intended for use with Microsoft Exchange files. Corrupt Microsoft Exchange files may be indicative of another problem with the Exchange store."
This is why I'm wondering about my Exchange Store.
