Backup Exec 9.1 Build 4691

I back up a bunch of remote servers to an autoloader and the job spans multiple tapes. I need to restore some files from the last tape used in the Full job. I put the tape in, I can Inventory it but I cannot Catalog or Restore anything from it. When I attempt either, it loads the tape from its slot into the drive where it stays for approximately 5 minutes and then the tape is returned to its slot having not restored any files and the job just sits with a "Queued" status. No alerts or errors are indicated. This job will stay there indefinitely. Occasionally the job will change back and forth to a restoring status but kicks back into Queued and the tape never leaves its slot.

I thought it was a bad tape at first but I tried two different backup sets with the same result. I can restore from my Incremental tapes without a problem. Any ideas?

Hi, I experienced this problem only a couple of days ago with a restore. Exact same symptoms, restore went into queued and remained there.

First thing I did was patch Backupexec to the latest version.

Secondly, I noticed that the SQL agent was not running. I started this, and then restarted the application, after which I was able to successfully complete the restore.

Hope this gives you a couple of ideas:)

Actually I did end up solving my problem after a couple days. It turned out that the files I needed were not on the tape that Backup Exec indicated they were on. The backup job spanned multiple tapes and BE said the files I needed were on one tape but when it ejected the tape, it would never prompt for the next tape and yes I did have the alerts enabled. I ended up putting all 4 tapes from the job back into the autoloader and it eventually found what it needed. PITA.
