I want to install BackupExec 9.1 using an existing SQL server.

But i only get the option to either create a new MSDE installation OR specify an existing SQL server instance, but when i choose the latter, i cannot browse to the SQL server i want>?

Anyone know what im doing wrong?

Many thanks

The SQL Server has to be on the same machine.

You can't do this with 9.1. However this is a new feature of 10.

Just for interests sake, just say you put the BE database on a remote SQL server.
The SQL server goes down - you not only need to recover the SQL server now, but also will have to re-install BE even before you can do the restore of the SQL server.

Thanks guys.

It was only for backing up our DMZ once a week, but point taken, i will install it locally.

Thanks again
