I have a problem with my Backup Exec and can't find the solution. Hopefully someone here can help.

My backup jobs only backup the server it is on. It was working fine until a few days ago. Now the backup jobs simply do not start. No error message, alert or anything. The job just stays in the Active Jobs with the status Scheduled, but do not start when the date/time passes.

No changes were made to the server when the jobs stopped working.

I've checked the system date, rebooted the server a few times, stopped and restarted the Backup Exec services... nothing works.

Any ideas?

Are you sure you don't have some other Alert pending?

Yes, I've checked the Alerts tab and it is empty.

Try re-creating the job.

Same thing. The job goes into the scheduled job list but never starts.

Is beremote.exe running?

I have beserver.exe and bkupexec.exe running, but no beremote.exe.

I haven't run 8.6 in so long I don't remember... I know beremote is required in 9x, 10x, and 11x.

How would I start it if it's required?

Computer Management->Services and Applications->Services.
Look for any service related to BE that doesn't have Started listed under the Status column. Doubleclick it, click the Start button, then set Startup Type to Automatic to keep the service starting on reboots.

Oh, it's a service. I already checked the services and they are all started. I stopped them and restarted them as well. I also rebooted the server... man this is a weird problem.

I'm thinking of reinstalling Backup Exec. Should I try that?

I don't have any further suggestions...

Is the date correct on the server??

Probably is, but.............

I FOUND IT!!!

Just in case anyone is interested or this happens to someone:

I was looking through all the tabs just in case I saw something, then on the Reports tab I noticed my server name had (Server paused) beside it! All I needed to do was right click on it and unpause it. My jobs work perfectly now.

I don't know why my backup server suddenly became paused (I didn't even know it could pause), but I'm glad I found it before reinstalling.
