I have BE 8.6 on Server 2000. In backing up a 2000 Pro workstation I receive an error "unable to initialize remote agent for windows NT/2000...". I do not find an agent for this. I have Windows 95, 98 and ME but not NT/2000. Is this what is necessary to back up the 2000 pro machine without getting failures? If so where would I acquire it?
Phil.

I do not find an agent for this"

What does this mean? Do you own the remote agent? Is it installed?

What are you selecting to backup in your job setup?

Matt J.

Please always take the time to backup any and all data before performing any actions suggested for ANY problem, regardless of how minor a change it might seem. Also test the backup to make sure it is intact.

I meant I do not find the agent on my backup exec installation cd for NT/2000. I only find for 95, 98, ME. I am backing up a Windows 2000 Professional machine. Back up exec is installed on a Sever 2000 machine. The 'C' and 'D' drives are already selected and grayed out for the professional machine. I want to back up these drives or at least the 'D' drive and BE does back it up except I get the back up failure message. I can not seem to locate the agent for download or purchase.

Well for starters, you're on an old version.

What's on the 2000 Pro box that you need to backup?

important files which have to reside on the 2000 pro machine.
is the answer to my question that it can not be done, that NT/2000 remote agent does not exist for BE 8.6?

No, if memory servers it does exist, but you'll have a hard time finding it, because its old. Your best bet is to google for a vendor.

A better option might be to share the folder(s) where the data is located on that box, and map a drive letter to it on your server, then you can run a xcopy script to copy the data locally every night.

yea, that's what I was thinking of doing. Just copy it over and then let BE back it up locally.
I appreciate your help.
